ISO (Innobiliare Sud Ovest) Un-real Estate

A fictional real estate agency for the sale of public goods
2019–ongoing

ISO is an ongoing artistic infrastructure that reactivates a long-term photographic archive, using real estate rhetoric and symbolic transactions to expose the privatization of the commons.

By adopting the language and tools of the property market, the project reveals the contradictions between public space and private speculation, activating forms of participation and symbolic ownership.

An iNNobiliare* agency: behind the guise of a traditional real estate sale, speculative mechanisms emerge through which properties that should already belong to citizens are turned into market assets.

The project adopts parody as a critical tool to reflect on the dispossession of public property experienced by the community.

— Chiara Zocchi

*The project title derives from a wordplay in Italian between “immobile” (real estate property) and “innobile” (“less-than-noble” / degraded).
